FAQ

Common questions

What actually moves the XAU/USD price?

Gold moves mainly on the US dollar, real interest rate expectations, central bank demand and demand for defensive assets. Because it is quoted in dollars, a stronger dollar usually presses the price down. News on inflation and rate policy tends to move it more than ordinary days, and moves can be sharp.

Is gold traded every hour of the day?

XAU/USD trades close to 24 hours on weekdays, following the major sessions from Asia through London to New York. It is not open around the clock at weekends, and liquidity thins outside the overlap of London and New York. Thin hours can mean wider price swings for the same order size.

How is one lot of gold sized?

One standard lot of XAU/USD is 100 oz, and one pip is 0.01. That means a one-pip move is worth a fixed amount per lot, which is why gold positions are usually much smaller than forex positions in lot terms. The position size calculator converts your risk into the right lot size.

Why does the gold price on this site differ from my broker's quote?

The reference price shown here is an indicative level near 4275.0, not a live executable quote. Your broker's price reflects its own liquidity, spread and the moment you look. Differences of a few ticks are normal, and you should always trade from the price on your platform, not from a reference page.

What leverage can I get on gold from Nigeria?

Leverage depends on the entity that opens your account, and reports conflict. Up to 1:200 is quoted via the offshore entity, while one review cited 1:30 or 1:20 caps, which was not verified at review. Treat any figure as a cap, not a setting to aim at, because it raises both position size and loss.
